Tales of the Magaambya: Chapter 1: Orientation
This is part of a series called "Tales of the Magaambya," and is in my set of TTRPG Wrap-Up fiction. I am in several TTRPG groups, whether it be D&D, Pathfinder, or something else, and to keep track of the plot and keep myself on my toes, I write session wrap-up notes in the form of in-character journals. In this case, this is the grand tale as told by a bard of their personal adventures and exploits. It is based on the characters in a Pathfinder 2e game of Strength of Thousands that I run, which takes place in the world of Golarion. Consider this your warning that THIS SERIES WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE STRENGTH OF THOUSANDS ADVENTURE PATH FOR PATHFINDER SECOND EDITION. All within is personally written by me personally, summing up the exploits at my personal table, and are not at all considered "canon" to the adventure, and ABSOLUTELY contain deviations from the published adventure that I put in myself. But it will spoil the story, so beware.

Part 2

To Purchase a Chicken

Moonday, Arodus the 3rd, 4720 Absalom Reckoning

Our Cohort awoke upon their first Moonday in the Magaambya, safe within the thick stone walls of the Spire Dormitory, with the pattering rain against their windows and ceiling, and all met in the common area, decorated with colored tessellated tiles, comfy couches, and tapestries.

But to meet them, Kahara and Jhaan's fast friend from over the weekend, Esi Djana, met them with tea in hand. But as she led them into the rain, umbrellas in hand, an Mbeke dwarf boy, dark of skin with puffy clothes and a scruffy beard, soared in from the skies a hand-made glider, introducing himself as Haibram Thodja. He showed the cohort the wonders of the Soaring Spire, a strangely enchanted magical spire, one of four flanking each entrance, that allowed one to jump to great heights within a close reach of the pillar.

Turned back to the business at hand, Esi informed us that she, along with Haibram, had been tasked with giving a task on behalf of the Rain-Scribes, despite her place in the Tempest-Sun Mages. She had taken the place of Anchor Root, who had escaped the duty for untold reasons (Reader: the poor Kholo girl was beset with anxiety).

The duo sent the cohort on an assignment to help the Rain-Scribes, both helping with a necessary task, and understanding what their branch represented. This would be the first in their orientation tasks in their Perquisite, a period of public service to The Magaambya and those living around it in the city of Nantambu. What task did they set upon our heroes, you may ask? For the branch most focused on exploration, charting the wilderness, establishing infrastructure, and the balance of natural and social worlds, the party was given the quest of finding the wandering Kafesi Market, and once there, purchasing a collection of rare and endangered Ojifiri chickens on behalf of a nearby farmer.

Map of Nantambu in hand, thanks to Esi, they party took a boat through the colorful canals winding about Nantambu, circling the city until they reached the spot the duo claimed the Market would be. But alas, the wandering market had wandered already, and not a soul around them proved to be of any help in the matter.

The team searched about the Trading Bazaar to no avail, and returned to dormitory. There, Jhaan used the Soaring Spire to leap high into the sky, hoping to spy the location of the Kafesi Market from a bird's view. Lo and behold, the young elf found it at the northwest edge of town, up near a residential area.

Once their boat had sailed them to the shores of the island, they hid away their beads to ease their purchase power, given the Kafesi Market's uneasy relationship with the Magaambya, and set to the task of finding the mysterious violet chickens. In short time, the party found a warm and welcoming shop owner by the name of Seydou, who promised them Ojifiri chicks at a more than reasonable price.

While your magnificent and melodious narrator has an unearthly way with music and the arts, they are not known for their knowledge of the natural world, nor the animal kingdom. While I was content to purchase these chicks, the keen natural eye of Kahara Raintooth spotted an issue straight away, noting the chicks lacked the distinct feather patterns, and exposing his chicks as fakes.

More determined to find the right ones, they scanned the crowd for an hour until Jhaan finally found Makena, a surly rancher with Ojifiri chicks, determined by all involved to be the real deal. Negotiations were tough, as she was loathe to budge, but Kudra's diplomatic tenacity won out. The party purchased and left with five chicks, and hurried back to the school.

They wandered the winding roads of Nantambu, following the map as closely as they could, before they found Haibram, who gladly accepted the chicks and lauded them for a job well done. As a reward, the party of five joined Esi back to the Trading Bazaar and shopped, purchasing several personal items to get them comfortable in their spaces.

There, they enjoyed dinner, and relaxed over tea into their evenings. But Kahara had prodded Ignaci for ideas into what Esi would subject them to the next day, eager to prepare. The young cryptography enthusiast theorized they would likely be helping with the campus' recent gremlin incursion (or at least one building's worth) in a non-lethal fashion, to teach them the importance of protecting the campus and Nantambu, and the value of life the Magaambya valued above all else. And so, the five conspired over tea with how they would do so, well into the night, in hopes of being ready for what was to come.
